return of the jess
Oh Canada, I hadn't expected to miss you this much, but I did! I really did!
In the past four months I backpacked in Europe, lived with and took care of my grandparents, and backpacked in China.
Quite a memorable summer, I should say!
More updates to follow soon. Right now I need to 1) buy a new laptop, 2) find an apartment, 3) buy furniture for said apartment, and 4) watch SPN with Jesse. Back to the real world it is!
(I think I liked living out of my backpack more.)

The Crazy Footlong Subs
ETA: this is my capstone project! Dr. Anand wrote an application to demonstrate the process of MRI interactively, ie. you could adjust various factors (eg. external magnetic field strength and frequency) and watch how it affects the protons, and see different imaging techniques in action. The original program was not functional as a teaching or learning tool. It bombards the user with multiple windows at the same time without any kind of structure, explanation or background exposition. My group adapted this application to work on the iPhone/iPod Touch platform. We also imposed a textbook-like structure, streamlined the user interface, added background information and Help documentation, and created quizzes for self-evaluation. In short, we turned it into a stand-alone teaching and learning tool that anybody can download onto their iPhone/iPod Touch and start using effectively. =)
Like any self-respecting programmer, we left all the coding and debugging til the last possible minute. Before this week if you asked me about my thesis I would have screamed something like "THERE'S NO WAY WE CAN FINISH ON TIME AND WE'LL FAIL THE PROJECT AND THEN I WON'T BE ABLE TO GRADUATE!!!" while running around in circles with my arms in the air. Our TA was visibly stunned that we managed to get everything working last minute! In fact, we didn't get the application to work on the iPhone until 2AM, the morning of our presentation. This is another shining example of how procrastination is a perfectly acceptable professional practice, as well as an excellent way of life, because all's well that ends well......?

Hyun and I wanted to use a fun group name but Luke and Sylvester made me change it to something boring like "McMaster University". Pssh.
